About The Designer

Cut from Detroit cloth.

Avery Hogue is a wardrobe and fashion design assistant building her career through the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Detroit Fashion Industry Club, where she has moved from intern to Junior Assistant for House of New Detroit — a nine-month program where youth designers construct full garments and develop a complete fashion show concept.

Her work spans industrial sewing, pattern creation, garment construction, draping, and wardrobe styling, with a steady focus on upcycling and character-driven design. She has led wardrobe for the Special FX project, mentored beginner interns through Fashion Foundations, and guided youth artists in Adobe Suite digital design at the Detroit Conservatory program — work that ended up on display at the Detroit Riverfront.

Fashion should just look like you... in that moment. No explanation. — Avery J.

Avery grew up on a stage. Dance was her first language for over a decade, and it taught her everything she now brings to wardrobe: quick changes, pressure, costume care, and how the right look becomes part of the performance.

Her work has been guided since the beginning by Sharryl Cross of Cross Creates and Truth Clothing Line — the fashion educator who introduced her to the craft and continues to mentor her through the BGCGD Fashion Industry Club.

This fall, she begins at Pensole Lewis College of Business and Design in the Design Color Theory program: Apparel & Accessories Design, Color Design.

Crowned Intentions

Bridgerton Meets New World · Winter 2025

A complete design journey — from inspiration board through hand sketch and Adobe Illustrator rendering, to final brocade garment on the runway. Designed and constructed by Avery J. for the House of New Detroit collection.

Bridgerton Meets New World design board with Modern Muse inspiration, Textural Elegance hand sketch, and Gilded Pixels Adobe Illustrator rendering
Stage 04 · Final Garment on the Runway
Crowned Intentions final runway look

Digitally rendered in Adobe Illustrator and brought to life for the Bridgerton Meets New World Winter 2025 fashion showcase, this look merges old-world elegance with contemporary tailoring. The design features a structured royal blue high-waisted pant paired with a fitted bodice and a floor-length coat dress. Voluminous sleeves, oversized cuffs, and lapel accents give a nod to vintage nobility, while the crisp silhouette and bold color-blocking ground the piece in modern sophistication.

The coat's fabric was updated from the digital version to a winter-weight brocade with floral texture, adding tactile richness and a visual shimmer beneath stage lighting. Styled with a crown and statement earrings, the full ensemble evokes regality, leadership, and command — fit for a queen redefining the era.

Special FX Capstone showcase with Avery as lead facilitator

Special FX Capstone

BGCGD Industry Clubs · 2025

As lead facilitator on the Special FX Capstone, Avery worked alongside interns to upcycle and restyle wardrobe looks for our youth performers — transforming base garments into character-ready performance pieces under tight production timelines. The capstone brought together wardrobe styling, prosthetic and makeup design, and live performance into one final showcase.

This project marked Avery's transition from designer to designer-mentor — coordinating production, guiding younger interns through their own upcycling builds, and pulling the full vision together for the runway.

How I Work

From theme to garment.

i.

Story First

Every project begins with a theme. I build the color story, identify the fabric and trim direction, and define the styling language before a single stitch.

ii.

Construct

Pattern, cut, sew, drape, finish. Industrial machine work, troubleshooting, and on-the-fly repairs are all part of the craft.

iii.

Show Up

Fittings, model calls, quick changes, and run-of-show coordination. Wardrobe is part of the performance.
